Tell your Senators to oppose the Equality Act!

Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. The Equality Act, which is coming up for a vote in the Senate soon, in many ways does the opposite and needs to be opposed. Instead of respecting differences in beliefs about marriage and sexuality, the Equality Act would discriminate against people of faith. The Equality Act would: punish faith-based organizations, such as charities and schools who serve everyone in their communities, simply because of their beliefs; force girls and women to compete against boys and men for limited opportunities in sports, and to share locker rooms and shower spaces with biological males who identify as women; risk mandating taxpayers to fund abortions; force people in everyday life, and especially health care workers, to support gender transition; and expand what the government considers a “public” place, forcing even some parish halls to host functions that conflict with Catholic beliefs.

Update 6/3/2021

Don’t let our government force you to pay for the deaths of unborn children.

Last Friday, President Biden proposed a national budget that would take away the Hyde Amendment.

Without the Hyde Amendment and related policies, billions of taxpayer dollars could be used to pay for abortion in the United States and throughout the world.

Even if you've already contacted Congress about this, they need to hear from you again!

TAKE ACTION NOW

HELP PROTECT THE HYDE AMENDMENT Your voice could help save millions of lives! The Hyde Amendment has protected Americans from funding abortion for 45 years. It’s credited with saving the lives of over 2.4 million children to date.  Now, powerful members of Congress want to take away this law that both Democrats and Republicans have supported for nearly half a century. Without it, billions of taxpayer dollars could go to abortion. That means abortions would be cheaper, easier, and funded with our taxpayer dollars.  It is critically important for Catholics to send a strong message before Congress moves forward to impose taxpayer-funded abortion. Because of the incredibly high stakes Congress needs to hear from a massive number of people.  I invite you and the people of your parish to join our diocesan response to this nationwide effort by the USCCB, set for the first week of June. The primary goal is for millions of Catholics to sign the petition on NoTaxpayerAbortion.com.  The USCCB has created easy, ready-to-use tools that can be found at respectlife.org/no-taxpayer-abortion. These include a sample announcement, graphics, flyer, and infographic, making the message easy to convey through parish bulletins, websites, email notices, social media, etc.
